Diptych

What is a Diptych? In photography terms, it simply is the positioning of two photographs next to each other for artistic,dramatic, and sequential reasoning. A Diptych isn’t traditionally a photographic term, it has been around since ancient Greece, with the Diptychs being two plates with a hinge joining them (history lesson FAIL).

So what makes a good diptych? The two photos have to be related of course, but they don’t have to be immediately related, with thought required to gain the connection. They can also work in a comedy-style; examples being different heads stuck on different bodies. Basically, they can work on many different levels, and when you see one, you’ll figure out pretty quickly if it’s a decent diptych or not.
